Daniel Webster
College is offering a 15-week Emergency Medical Technician–Basic Program
through its Division of Gradate and Continuing studies, beginning August
31 and running through December 7, 2005.
The non-credit
course, held on Monday and Wednesday nights, 6-10 p.m. at the college,
is approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the National
Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and The NH Fire Standards and
Training and Emergency Medical Services. The program includes basic EMT
concepts in regard to anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies,
emergency driving, CPR, and more. By the conclusion of the 120-hour
program, students will have a functional understanding of the basic
concepts of pre-hospital emergency medicine and life saving skills, as
well as health and safety education topics.
Lifeguards,
Firefighters, Ambulance personnel, wilderness camps and programs, police
officers, industrial first aid teams, Ski Patrollers, and those who have
an interest in any of the above fields should consider taking this
program, said Christopher Rousseau, New Hampshire EMS Licensed
Instructor Coordinator. “The biggest advantage for persons to take the
EMT-Basic course is to get them moving in the right direction toward EMT-Intermediate
or EMT-Paramedic where there are many full and part time paid
opportunities for these levels of certifications in NH and surrounding
states.”
Maximum enrollment
for the EMT Basics course is 20 students. The cost for the program,
which includes the textbook and study guides, is $750. (There is a
separate fee for the cost of the National Registry testing and exam at
the conclusion of the course) Interested individuals should call Daniel
