Gamers converged on Daniel Webster College yesterday to prove who was the best at the computer game "Counterstrike 1.6."

The tournament, continuing today, is hosted by HoloDek of Hampton, and attracted 140 gamers playing in five-member teams, said HoloDek CEO Kit McKittrick.

The team that comes in first place will be presented with a check for $2,600. Second place earns $1,600. In all, $6,000 will be awarded to the top eight teams.

The tournament is the second hosted by HoloDek at Daniel Webster, said McKittrick. HoloDek is attempting to host one tournament every month with cash prizes.

The tournaments are part of a partnership between HoloDek and Daniel Webster College, said McKittrick.

Yesterday also marked the grand opening of HoloDek's facility at the college's Eaton-Richmond Center.

The facility, open to the public, allows gamers to play more than 200 different games on 6-foot high definition projection screens.

The facility is open on Fridays from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight, and on Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m.
