Candidates Flock To N.H., Boston This Weekend

(WBZ) BOSTON We're heading into a huge weekend for politics. With the field for president wide open for 2008, many candidates are trying to plant the seeds as early as possible. And because New Hampshire holds the first primary, New England is already bustling with political traffic.

You may need a scorecard for this one - hang on to your seat. The activity starts later Friday morning in Nashua. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee speaks with business leaders up at Daniel Webster College.

Last weekend, Huckabee announced he would begin gauging his 2008 support with a presidential exploratory committee. Friday's event is part of New Hampshire's "National Leaders Forum" series. It's a plan for New Hampshire's business community to connect with national political figures.

And that's not all for New Hampshire this weekend. On Saturday, Sen. Hillary Clinton comes to town. She'll hold "town hall style" meetings with Granite Staters at Berlin City Hall and at Concord High School.

On Sunday, Clinton rounds out her weekend in Manchester, Nashua and Keene. Clinton's trip coincides with another major event for democrats. Saturday is also the day Sen. Barack Obama plans to formally announce his candidacy.

The democrat will make his run for president official in his home state of Illinois while supporters gather here in Boston to celebrate.

A rally of Obama backers is planned for o1p.m. in Copley Square on Saturday.

And where's Mitt Romney in all this? He is out fundraising. Romney has already picked up $1.4 million on his Web site and at a Boston fundraiser last month, Romney raked in an impressive $6.5 million.

Romney plans to officially announce his candidacy next Tuesday in Michigan and Iowa. On Wednesday the Republican goes to South Carolina and on Thursday, Romney comes home to Massachusetts after a stop up in New Hampshire.
