Christal Fitzgerald Moves from North American Women's Baseball League to Division III Daniel Webster College Eagles

(NASHUA , NH , March 19, 2007) The Nashua Pride announced today that the North American Women’s Baseball League player, Christal Fitzgerald, is playing collegiate baseball for the Daniel Webster College Eagles.

Fitzgerald first came to the United States in 2005 to play baseball in the North American Women’s Baseball League (NAWBL). That season, she received the offensive player of the year award and returned in 2006 for another successful year. The NAWBL, sponsored by Nashua Pride owner John Stabile, found a new home in Nashua for 2006. The Pride is proud to support the elite women’s baseball league that attracts home grown talent as well as female stars from across the world.

The 22-year-old calls Sydney , Australia her home and through the experiences in the NAWBL her dream of playing college baseball was born. She enrolled at Daniel Webster College in the fall of 2006 and successfully made the men’s collegiate baseball team, being only the fourth female to date to do so and the first international female to play on a men’s collegiate baseball team in the United States.

Fitzgerald is a pitcher and also plays second and third base. She recently became the first international female player to knock in a run during a game played versus Calumet Saint Joseph at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando , FL.

“I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to play on a great baseball team at a great college. Every time I walk out onto the baseball field, I am living my dream,” said Christal. “There are many young women playing baseball in the high school ranks and I hope that by seeing this that they are inspired, and keep striving to achieve in the sport of baseball.”

The Daniel Webster College Eagles play in Division III and are members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
