Water Lilys on Oil Canvas by Elizabeth Whelton

Showing hours are Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday’s from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Whelton is a Wilton, New Hampshire artist whose work ranges from traditional landscapes to watercolor to abstract oils on canvas and paper. Her wide range of work reflects her commitment to experimentation and evolving process. Using watercolor and drawing mediums to capture images first hand, and then further develop onsite studies in the studio, Whelton’s paintings are primarily a response to the landscape, seasons, weather, and the moods they provoke.

Critics and collectors have often observed that Whelton’s images can be wildly diverse, reflecting not only her personal intensity but also the fluctuating energy level of an artist who struggles with narcolepsy. “As I’ve learned to work with the way my brain functions, it has allowed me to express freely what I see and experience in my paintings,” Whelton says. “If the viewer sees diversity in my work, it is because that is what I experience every day.”

Whelton, who has held more than 20 art exhibits in various locations, studied Art and Design at the Alfred State (N.Y.) University College of Ceramics. She also earned a B.A. in Journalism fro the University of New Hampshire. Whelton spent earlier years working in publishing and later as a consultant and freelance writer, before founding the Eclectic Art Gallery in Nashua in 2004.

Hansen splits her time between her native New London, New Hampshire and San Francisco where she earned both her bachelor of fine art degree and master of fine art degree from the Academy of Art College. In addition to painting, she works as a color designer in industries ranging from textile to animation. Recent projects include background painting and color styling for such clients as Disney, Warner Bros., and LeapFrog. When not painting digitally, she works primarily in oils. Her favorite subjects are the human figure and the landscapes and light of New England and Northern California.

Hansen was recently featured with painter Lisa Jelleme-Miller at the Fells at the John Hay National Wildlife Refuge in Newbury, NH. In addition, she was recently honored, having been selected as two of five painters in the New Hampshire Governor's Show, with a handful of large landscape paintings on display in the capitol building in Concord, N.H.
