Campus Compact for New Hampshire

Community Partner Awards from Campus Compact for New Hampshire for its work with Daniel Webster College and New Hampshire Community Technical College.

The awards are for a nonprofit organization that has enhanced the quality of life in the community in meaningful and measurable ways and engaged in the development of sustained, reciprocal partnerships with a college or university.

PAL’s Youth Safe Haven provides the city of Nashua’s low-income, high-crime neighborhood with an after school program targeted for at-risk youth.

With structured activities such as Homework Help, Movie Night, Music Magic, computer lab, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and Teen Programs and mentored by trained civilian staff as well as Nashua police officers, the programs affect positive changes in at-risk youth.

The Youth Safe Haven staff have opened the doors and welcomed a partnership with Daniel Webster College and NHCTC-Nashua Service Leaning students. Debbie Frazer, the director, has provided the college students with unique opportunities to connect to the youth.

In spring 2006, Robotics Automation students at the college used their knowledge and skills to serve the needs of the Youth Safe Haven by building a jukebox for the youths’ dance room. The technical writing class students provided newsletter development support.
