Meeting the needs of
flight students, kiosk-style
DWC introduces integrated “one-stop
shop” kiosks
Long
distinguished as one of the nation’s leaders in aviation education, Daniel
Webster College (DWC) recently received the first of what will be ten
MontegoNet Kiosks, creating a system that will create an effective
“one-stop shop” for its flight students.
“Each kiosk
allows students to access all pertinent information in a significantly
more streamlined and dramatically more time-efficient manner,” said DWC’s
Rick Bartle, assistant director of flight operations – flight services.
The kiosk
that is already in place is seeing a lot of traffic, with more than 200 user
sessions each week. On a typical fall semester flying day, the college
operates more than 100 flights a day, with about 1,100 flight hours each
month.
“The
incorporation of the ten MontegoNet Interactive Kiosks will be a boon to
the operational efficiency of DWC’s Tamposi Aviation Center,” he said,
“significantly advancing the ability of flight operations to meet the
needs of our 240 flight students in a number of ways,” he added.
Some of the
ways the kiosks will enhance DWC’s aviation flight operations program
include:
-
More
efficiently allowing the dispatch of aircraft, allowing for more lesson
time with the flight instructor.
-
Consolidating services such as weather, schedule changes, account access
and flight planning into one stop.
-
Enhanced
delivery of information.
The
addition of the MontegoNet Kiosk system for Daniel Webster’s aviation
program, he added, is a key component of the college’s continuing
technological enhancement. New kiosk services will be added in stages over
the next few months.
Daniel
Webster College provides educational programs for professional entry and
advanced studies through undergraduate and graduate programs designed for
both traditional and non-traditional students.
The
college’s nationally ranked degree programs in aviation, including an
online MBA for aviation professionals, are well complemented by innovative
programs in computer science and information technology (gaming,
simulation and robotics), aeronautical and mechanical engineering, sport
management, the social and behavioral sciences, and business and
management.
Daniel
Webster College's flight training program (professional pilot) is approved
under the guidelines of federal Aviation Regulation Parts 141 and 61, and
all instructors are Certified Flight Instructors. DWC's air traffic
management major is one of only 13 academic programs recognized by the FAA
as part of its Collegiate Training Initiative.
