Daniel Webster College Kicks Off
MBA in Applied Sport Management
First cohort in College's newest graduate program begins
Fall '08
(Nashua, N.H.) - Daniel Webster College today announced its newest graduate
program, the MBA in Applied Sport Management, which is specifically designed to
establish or enhance a career in the rapidly-growing sport and sport
entertainment industries. The program will begin in the Fall 2008 semester.
Offered by the College's new School of Business, Management and Professional
Studies, the degree is designed to provide students with a strong traditional
MBA foundation and advanced, in-depth sport management industry knowledge.
"Organizations engaged in sport business in the 21st century demand versatile,
technologically-literate professionals who can actively contribute and thrive in
a team project management environment," said Dr. Eric Schwarz, coordinator of
the sport management program and professor at Daniel Webster College.
"Preparation from this program leads to careers such as professional and amateur
sports team administration; leadership of non-profit, private, and club sport
organizations; and opportunities in retail and recreation management."
Advisory Council Guides Program Development
Development of the MBA in Applied Sport Management is guided by an Advisory
Council comprising professionals in a various aspects of sport management.
Members include Sheryl Arduino '01, channel merchandising manager, Converse;
Nancy Larkin, vice president for marketing and development, Comcast SportsNet
New England; Kurt Norris, director of operations, Boys and Girls Club of Greater
Nashua; Jason Perry, director of sales and marketing, Verizon Wireless Arena;
Mark Rodrigues '06, ticket sales manager, Boston Bruins; and Tracy West,
president and CEO, Hayson Sports Group/Tournament Director.
Council members provide guidance on curriculum, course and program outcomes,
current industry needs and target markets. After the program launches, the
Council will also provide field experience and project placements; guest
speakers; field trips; and external funding including scholarships, grants and
sponsorships.
