DWC welcomes
record number of students in Class of ’11
(Nashua, NH) -- It
was standing room only when family and parents gathered in the Vagge
Gym of Daniel Webster College (DWC) recently, waiting for the official
welcoming ceremony for the Class of ’11, the largest in the college’s
history.
Daniel P. Monahan,
DWC’s dean of admissions and financial assistance, led 300 students
into the auditorium accompanied by a bagpiper from the Ancient Order
of Hibernians. Enrollment in the Class of ’11 represents a nearly 40
percent increase over last year’s enrollment, and more than a 25
percent increase over the last two years.
“We are delighted
that these students have chosen Daniel Webster College as their
educational community and are part of this historic class,” Monahan
said.
“We are even more
pleased that the academic caliber of students is also one of the best
in our history. The class of ’11 represents a strong and diverse
academic profile,” he added.
Monahan attributes
the increased enrollment to the college’s widely known baccalaureate
programs in business, aviation, engineering, social sciences, and
gaming, simulation and robotics as one of the primary reasons for the
increased enrollment.
“Our engineering
enrollment is up nearly 30 percent,” he said, “while computer science
is seeing an astonishing 200 percent increase.”
“Here at DWC the
entire college community is involved in the admissions process,
especially when prospective students are visiting campus,” Monahan
explained. “Prospective families expect to see people from the
admissions office, but when they can sit down with the faculty and
staff, they see what our community is all about.”
Of the 300 students
in the Class of ’11, 14 students are from Nashua, another 55 are from
the surrounding communities, with a total of 95 students from the
Granite State. Although the majority of the class is from New England
and the Upper East Coast, students hail from as far away as Florida,
Taiwan, Illinois, Texas, Utah, Sweden, China, California, and
Colorado.
