DWC recognizes Alumni Council chair Daren Hudson '88
with Alumnus of the Year Award

Daren T. Hudson ’88, was presented with the Daniel Webster College (DWC) Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award at ceremonies held May 13th at the Nashua College. The award is presented to a Daniel Webster College graduate in recognition of his or her continuing service to the College. Hudson is the inaugural chair of the DWC Alumni Council.

A 1988 graduate with a bachelor of science degree in aviation management/flight operations, Daren worked for DWC as a certified flight instructor through August 1991.  Since that time he has had a successful and diversified flight career, having worked for Pac Air, Metro Airlines, Business Express, and Midway. Since 1999, Daren has been with Northwest Airlines, where he is currently a First Officer on the DC-9.

Daren also met his wife Justyna (Oles) Hudson ’91 at DWC. Daren says, “Justyna is my best friend; she has been a supporter of my interests since we have known one another.”  Justyna is also a pilot and flies the Boeing 757 and 767 with United Airlines.

Both Justyna and Daren have always been very involved with Daniel Webster College. They have enjoyed mentoring young people, been involved with ACE (Aviation Career Education) Camp since 1992, DWC Aviation Career Days, and numerous alumni panels and gatherings.

While Daren was furloughed from Northwest – and with the support and urging of Justyna – Daren took on the leadership of the newly reinstituted Alumni Council, recruiting 15 alumni council members.  Their efforts have resulted in the most active alumni council in DWC history.  Their mission: “To establish and strengthen our college relationships and create an alumni community for present and future Daniel Webster College graduates.” Since the Alumni Council’s first meeting in February 2004, and under Daren’s leadership, the Council has: implemented the DWC Alumni Forum, an alumni web page that provides networking and job information to alumni; developed an Alumni Message/Chat Board on the Alumni Forum; organized the Annual Alumni Golf Tournament; supported alumni reunions, alumni soccer, basketball and hockey games, ACE Camps; contributed to the alumni section in Omnibus; helped refine the Alumni of the Year Award process; and aided in the development of the DWC Citizen of the Year Award.

In giving of his talent and countless hours, Daren has exhibited the leadership and devotion to DWC that he hopes to inspire in others.  He has always said “alumni relations is a relationship,” and this is a relationship that is working.
