DWC Holds Alcohol Awareness Week Activities
DWC joins 3,000 other campuses in observing National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week

October 24, 2003 - When students donned the Fatal Vision goggles, specially designed to simulate the visual impairment caused by alcohol or other drugs, the point became quite clear, even as their equilibrium was not. Dozens of DWC students experienced that loss of equilibrium - one of the effects of intoxication - just one of the week's activities coinciding with Alcohol Awareness Week. The week promotes responsible drinking and highlights the problems that accompany irresponsible and under-aged alcohol intake.

Earlier in the week, the college's Student Activities Board sponsored an alcohol information mini-course, where Director of Residence Life Scott Fitzgerald discussed the college's alcohol policy, Campus Safety Officer Chris Rousseau discussed state laws regarding alcohol, and Nurse Practitioner Cynthia Vigdor spoke about the physiological effects of alcohol, as well as how students can recognize and manage a dangerous situation.

Students were also invited to share how alcohol has impacted their lives on a "wall of impact" located in the campus dining hall.
