Daniel Webster College hosting world premier of Christmas Stories

November 12, 2004
— Start the holiday season by attending with the world premier of the musical Christmas Stories Friday, November 26 and Sunday, November 28 and Saturday and Sunday, December 4 and 5, 2004 at Daniel Webster College’s Eaton Auditorium.  Christmas Stories has three separate, but intertwining one-act plays in which plot lines and characters move from one story to the next.

“I wanted to write the ultimate feel-good play that taps into why Christmas is so special and reminds us about who and what is really important,” said Tom Anastasi, the playwright.  “This is a play for the entire family. The intertwined stories have lots of twists and turns; the show really is a lot of fun and the music is great!  And of course, there are a few touching moments.”

Producer and Misfit Toys President Andrea Kalinowski said, “This is going to be an American classic, and we couldn’t be happier to be producing the world premier.  There is a great combination of talent from DWC and the community.”

The story and lyrics are written by Daniel Webster College Professor and best-selling author Tom Anastasi.  His play Deadline won the full-length play honors with Yellow Taxi’s New American Playwrights’ Festival last spring, and The Magic of Crime, which he co-wrote with N.Y Times Theater Critic E. Kyle Minor was one of the Hippo Press’ top 6 outstanding performances in 2002.

SNHU Adjunct Instructor Peter Bridges, who has worked with many area theater groups, wrote the original music for Christmas Stories. It is produced by the Misfit Toys Players in association with Daniel Webster College’s Theater Guild and features several members of the Daniel Webster College community, including students, faculty, and staff, as well as some of the most talented actors and actresses from the area.

Christmas Stories has been nominated for a New Hampshire Theater Award for “best original play in a non-professional production.”  Kevin Riley, winner of the New Hampshire Theater Festival for best play and best director (The Good Doctor) is directing.  Said Riley, “It’s different from the typical ‘formula’ Christmas play; People will want to see it year after year.”  Judges from around the Granite State will converge on Daniel Webster College’s campus to judge the play. New Hampshire Theater Awards for acting, set design, lighting design, and other technical categories will be announced at 2005 awards ceremony February 4th at the Palace Theater in Manchester.

Show times for Christmas Stories are November 26th at 7:00, November 28th at 2:00, December 4th at 2:00 and 7:00, and December 5th at 2:00.  Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors/students; and $5 for children under 7.  For information call (603) 557-3812 or e-mail Anastasi@dwc.edu.
