Hosts NH's Future Business Leaders of America
More than
350 students from 25 Granite State high schools attend
fall leadership conference
October
23, 2003 - They are our future business leaders and they
arrived at Daniel Webster College (DWC) by the busload
to attend New Hampshire's Future Business Leaders of
America (FBLA) fall leadership conference. This is the
third year that DWC has hosted the fall conference,
which is supported by the its collegiate equivalent, Phi
Beta Lambda. Now in its second year, Phi Beta Lambda at
DWC is comprised of 20 students, led by president Jeff
Vocell, of Atkinson, a DWC Business Management senior.
The DWC team will participate in a spring college
competition.
The
October 23rd FBLA event featured workshops and
presentations, many conducted by Daniel Webster College
staff, including the abbreviated Meyers-Briggs Type
Indicator, an indispensable tool for pulling work teams
together and creating better understanding of how to
take advantage of individual strengths. Students also
enjoyed the "DWC Cannonball Run," an activity
where groups navigated their way through a series of
checkpoints around the DWC campus. The activity mirrored
what happens in the "real world," as students
utilized skills in leadership, cooperative and creative
thinking, managerial and group decision-making, and
problem solving. DWC students also volunteered during
the day's programming.
FBLAs
mission is to bring education and business together in a
positive working relationship, helping to prepare
students for careers in business and business-related
fields. The high-school level alone has over 200,000
members. FBLA students gain valuable skills and
abilities necessary in today's business world. FBLA is
designed around five points of achievement: Professional
Development, Community Service, Civic Work, Fundraising,
and Social Activities. Chapters in New Hampshire work on
these points to improve their chapters and their minds.
