Daniel Webster College student recognized with

Presidents' Leadership Award by Campus Compact for NH

May 11, 2005 -- Daniel Webster College (DWC) sophomore Andre Jean, of Derry, was recently recognized with Presidents’ Leadership Award conferred by the Campus Compact for NH. The award recognizes a student who has made outstanding contributions to community service, service-learning and/or civic engagement.

According to DWC Director of Experiential Education, Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Andre wasn’t required to do service-learning as a part of his humanities class in World Literature; however he seized the opportunity to work with ESL students in the Nashua area as soon as it was offered by his professor. “Andre was at my office immediately after class to sign up to work in one of the Nashua schools.”  Added Fitzpatrick, “Andre approached his service-learning with enthusiasm and commitment. I heard many positive comments about his contribution in the classroom at the Mt. Pleasant School where worked during the semester.”

Ms. Lisa Duncklee, the teacher with whom he worked, offered the following observations: “What a wonderful student Andre is! He comes in with a smile and positive attitude each week, and the two students he works with are always eager and look forward to the day he works with them. I am blessed.”

Andre is an aviation flight operations major at Daniel Webster College.
