  17. What is the DWC New Student Room/Roommate Assignment Process?
After making your deposit, Admissions will send you a Pre-enrollment packet. Among the many things in this packet you will find information about campus housing. Specifically, you should look for the "Roommate Preference Form". You should complete this form and return it to the Office of Admissions as soon as possible

  18. Why is the Roommate Placement Form so important?
Roommate placement forms are prioritized on a first-received, first-served basis. In early August, rooms will be assigned based on this priority system. While we make every attempt to accommodate each student’s choices, there are limitations to the availability of certain options. Roommates are assigned based on the information you provide via the Roommate Placement Form, so please be honest on this form.

In early August, you will receive a letter indicating your campus address, mailbox number, telephone number and the summer address of your roommate, if that person chooses to release this information. Your voicemail box will be assigned later during the summer and you will receive that information at check-in during New Student Orientation. During the first couple weeks of the semester, you will have the opportunity to have your computer connected to the campus network, which includes internet and email access and a network drive accessible anywhere on campus that allows you to save and share your work.

  19. Should I try to contact my roommate before I come to campus?
This information is critical! You will be assigned a roommate based on what you tell us via the form. Please understand that this is the person you will be living with for the next 9 months! It is important that you complete the form truthfully and honestly. Families, please allow your student the freedom to answer these questions according to how they will choose to live while on campus. You may choose to room with a specific person, provided each student indicates so at the bottom of the form.

It is important for you to have a conversation with your roommate about what you plan to bring with you to campus. Residence Hall rooms are fully furnished - a desk and chair, a bed and mattress, a dresser, closet and light fixture. The rooms are comfortable, but space is limited. If you each bring a stereo, a TV/VCR, a refrigerator, a couch, your guitar and your mountain bike, etc., you will certainly be cramped (and unable to power all that electrical equipment safely!) Each desk has enough space for a computer, but you might consider sharing accessories (scanner, printer, etc.) This is also a great way to begin to get to know your roommate.
